PROJECT #1: BUTTER CAKE WITH ICING

I'm obviously talking about the first project on my new oven! @meshellwe and I wanted to try out the oven so badly that we decided to do it a day before my last final exam — Introduction to Business; more on that later on. So we head out for our breakfast (sis is on leave because she was wasn't feeling very well last night. *ahem* doesn't seem like that, that morning...) and went to buy cake supplies at the grocery store.

I've tweeted the whole progress while we're doing it via Instagram (Follow me: ItsTracyy) but incase you've missed it and that you even care, here it is!

Ingredients (shown): Flour, margarine, butter, icing sugar, caster sugar,
Not shown: Vanilla essence, baking powder, food coloring, salt, eggs

Unfortunately, I was too busy doing a couple of things at once and I did not take pictures of making the cake batter. My hands were full of butter and I can't possibly hold the cam every 3 minutes taking stills of what's happening, hahaha. My excuse is reasonable. Cake batter was absolutely delish — though with raw eggs & flour — it's so addictive. Rascal is also in the kitchen, not helping but getting in the way of things, trying to get a taste of what's being mixed on the counter. Ha. He got some of the leftovers though, lucky dog you.
The best & prettiest part:  PINK ICING.

The icing was surprisingly easy to do. All along, I thought it was pretty hard till I actually Googled the recipe... Sweet mother of icing, it was 300 grams of icing sugar And only 120 grams of flour. The ratio was totally off but it came together anyway after 20-30 minutes in the mixer. And then my favourite part, the colouring — I achieved cotton candy pink on my first estimation, not that it was really that hard to estimate... Anyway, I got the icing recipe here and there's a whole lot of other things you can find out/learn on that website also, so have a look. :)

Now, just remember this is my first time icing a cake. I don't mean to shock you till the point of a heart attack for lack of creativity on designing the outlook of the cake but... do bear with a first timer. lol.

Did you die? Are you sure you're alright? Okay, we can all come to conclusion where icing is definitely not my forté. But I did my very best to save it! Even Instagram filters can't do it any justice ahahaha. Taste-wise, it's amazing! It's soft and really tasty. Not really a first timer on baking this cake — been at it for a year now — and so obviously it tastes good... if I do say so myself. I'm hoping to re-create the chocolate cake I made a few months back as it did not end well (because a certain someone named Michelle added the wrong ratio of baking powder...) lol. And I also learned that recipes that are from overseas must be adjusted in temperature-wise. Lol blonde baker, I am.

So as "promised", Introduction to Business exam today was shit. I studied 5 days before and I messed up on small bits in essay — we have to write 6-7 short essays, mind you. I think I mentioned in my previous post that cramming for an exam works way better than studying months/weeks/days before. Ah, should've crammed for it. lol that sounded awkward and weird hahaha; especially because no one would ever say that.  So as of right now, I have a 5-6 months of free time... Going to finally get my license (Grace and Siow Teng can't take the fact that I still don't have my license, anymore), most probably get a part-time job and obviously do more projects! Can't wait for uber amount of free time (which also means more chores... sigh.)

May - Sunway Lagoon with my college mates
June - Prom, Sleepover, Bangkok

List is empty! Call/text/whatsapp me when you're free to hang out :)
